NGC6543 Katzenaugennebel
A planetary nebula 3300 light years from earth.
Gas bubble of a dying star ejected with 1900 km/s.
The core is tiny from here, only about 20 arcseconds in diameter. The large outer halo is much bigger, about 6 arcminutes.
The bright tiny core requires a different imaging technique (250ms subexposures) than the dim outer halo (120s and 300s). Final image is a superposition of core and halo images.
Total exposure 14h (halo: 4.5h Ha, 7h OIII, 2.5h RGB; core: 50 frames stack of 250ms RGB)
